Sacrifices or Delayed Gratification?

A lot of people have asked me on why I do what I do? Why don't I just stay focus on becoming the most successful professional speaker in the industry and enjoy the lucrative rewards that come with it. The response is simple. I have already achieved that and I want to do much more to make a much bigger difference. Many see it as a sacrifice. I see it as delayed gratification. To achieve our dreams, we have to know why we do what we do. We need to stay focus on the journey and not be deterred by things that try to distract us. There are and will always be lots of temptation. However, we need to keep reminding ourselves that Rome was not built in a day!

When you know what you want to do and you go for it, it is far more rewarding compared to the sacrifices that you have to make.

Agreed. Do a job that you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I would rather you kept the change than reward my hard work with pittance. On second thought...I'll take it. Thanks.

I think that ultimately, giving yourself the space to enjoy the day to day actually allows you to work harder. I’ve sometimes seen my work as a burden — something I’m resentful of, because it’s the ugly crap I have to overcome to get to the perceived gratification that lies on the other side. Thinking of work that way doesn’t make me want to keep trying harder.

I really appreciate how you point out that we need to be conscious and present when we are living our lives. There is nothing delayed about that. Neither is there delay in the concept of “finding pleasure in the journey”. This is a NOW attitude, too.

What an awesome principle to live by. Great post with some incredible suggestions. Thank you for sharing.

We need to be certain on what we want to do it life! To be successful we need to be a little selfish...ie make up your mind and go for it...its for yourself...if the heart is true and we really want to make a difference gratification will come....and whn it does it will be a GREAT surprise how much a diffirence we have impact on others

Now pursuing your “dream” job is basically nonexistent if you want the safety net "basic salary, bonus, etc." And a job will always be a JOB unless you have the passion for what you are doing. I chose what I am doing now because of the passion I have in sharing knowledge development solutions.

Truer words were never spoken! If I want to do something to achieve what I want in life, I will not see it as a sacrifice, it is an enthusiasm. I believe someday I will see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Agree Boss. Nothing should distract us while we are in progress to do what we want to do in life. What is mine is mine, and no one else can see it the way I see it. So, just delete peoples negative comments on our work.

Yes Boss, I agree with you that great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness. I am always prepare, pray and achieve – (to make it happen.
