A JOB CAN BE REPLACED. A CAREER CANNOT.

A JOB CAN BE REPLACED. A CAREER CANNOT.

This is something I have been emphasizing increasingly to my team. The world of work is changing — and AI is accelerating that change.

If your value to an organisation is simply that you can complete a task, you should assume that eventually someone, something, or some technology will be able to do that task faster, cheaper and more consistently.

That is not a threat.

That is the reality of progress.

We have already started our own AI optimisation journey, and we will continue to do so.

We will automate.
We will optimise.
We will eliminate repetitive work.
We will redesign how work gets done.

And yes, some roles that are primarily built around repetitive execution will eventually disappear.

But that doesn’t mean people have to become irrelevant.

It means people have to become more valuable.

Don’t just work.

Think.

Understand why you are doing something, not simply what you have been told to do.

Understand the business model.
Understand the customer.
Understand the numbers.
Understand the problem we are trying to solve.
Understand how your work contributes to the bigger picture.

Then ask yourself:

“How can I do this better?”

That is where a career begins.

AI can execute without passion.

It can process information without ownership.

It can optimise without caring about the outcome.

You can bring judgement, curiosity, ownership, creativity, leadership and passion.

That is your opportunity.

I don’t want people in our organisation who simply want to keep their jobs.

I want people who are constantly making themselves more difficult to replace because they are becoming more capable, more thoughtful and more valuable.

There is an important distinction:

A job is something you perform.
A career is something you build.

And building a career requires you to compete with only one person:

yourself yesterday.

Don’t worry about whether another company is hiring.

Don’t worry about who has the better title.

Don’t worry about whether someone else gets the opportunity.

Become better. Become useful. Become someone who can create value wherever you go.

Because the future won’t belong simply to those who work the hardest.

It will increasingly belong to those who understand the game, think deeply, adapt quickly and continuously improve themselves.

That is the culture I want us to build.

Don’t just come to work.
Build yourself.
Build your capability.
Build your career.

And when you do that, you don’t just make yourself stronger.

You make the entire organisation stronger.
