Where Have All The Good People Gone?

One of my team members observed a phone conversation recently about a company that wanted some training for upper management. Apparently these people who are supposed to lead the way suck at what they do and are hopeless when it comes to their clients and customers.

Now anyone worth their salt in business would know that a customer/client is king and to ignore that would mean that they need to purchase a shovel double quick and dig their own graves.

So I was asked this question, “How did they get to upper management level if they’re so bad at what they do?”

From what I’ve seen with the current flock who make up upper management in organizations, they sure didn’t get there because they’re good. They got to where they are because there’s no one else – because all the good ones have left the country for other environments that appreciate them.

The good ones that are left behind are either working their butts of trying to bring about a positive change or are half mad by now. The people who suck in management transmit a half-dead culture to those below them and their bosses are just don’t give a damn.

You know why they continue to suck? Because getting better is too much work and it’s tiring and saying you’ll do something requires commitment. It’s probably easier to draw blood with a straw than get them to commit to something.

These people are just in it for the paycheck and they just want to get the job done and they welcome incompetence. You think training can sort this out at one go? No way. You have to ensure consistency by constant monitoring of value. Don’t just be focused on making a profit – look into making people better, now that’s something that money cannot buy.

Is sad to hear about this. Many potential companies are actually cad do very well. Is because of their people are not competency, don't know what they should do, and etc. So, the company still cannot perform up to the date. Training should apply in an organization continuously and consistantly. This is like a long term treatment to the organization. The good people are always with good company.

Bravo to both charm6781 and hl. You both have the right attitude and will definitely go far. Keep up the good work. And I do agree with the both of you and most importantly Ernie with his words of wisdom. I just like the way you tell them off and you have a way of expressing to us what we are thinking in our minds.

SPOT ON ERNIE!! The solution will need to come from the top management. They determine the culture that the organization practise.

Suresh,

The top management to play a vital role. However, always remember that we all play just as important of a role to ensure the culture of the organization stays true to itself.

8 out of 10 of my close friends have decided to migrate. It doesnt really matter to which country they go, so long as they are not status quo here in Malaysia.

So where have all the good people gone? I believe you have a better picture now.. Give that a longer term consideration, who will lead our country in generations to come?

Whoa Whoa Whoa.. You got to be kidding..
