What A Tertiary Joke

I want to share something funny with you – it’s *slapstick humor and there’s nothing intelligent about it. Now, this joke took place last Saturday July 26th to be exact at a “leading” local university – University Malaya. I was told that there would be about 400 students who will be attending talks concerning specific areas of business and accounting. When we told them we could offer our services in the area of motivation, they accepted this readily enough.

We put a lot of work into this talk which new material had been designed to suit the needs of these 400students. Titled Winner’s Mindset, this talk for your information I had agreed to do for FREE as part of our give back to society. FYI, I charge and get paid up to RM60,000 a day for my talks. Now that I’ve established this, let me continue.

My team arrived at the university a good hour before the scheduled talk and proceeded to set everything up. We are so good at what we do and take so much pride in it that we never do anything half heartedly. It was not just the talk we had planned on giving. As part of our value add to UM (for something that’s already free), we brought along our video cameras to record these students in order to put them up on our recruitment website to help them get a jobs.

To top it all off, we were ready to give them a free subscription to our confidence website where they could network with a very motivated community and make something of themselves. The talk was scheduled to begin at 9am. When I arrived shortly before that, all ready to put on a great show for 400 students not a single one turned up. I left of course and decided that the morning would be better spent servicing my BMW.

Later I found out that the individual responsible wasn’t very apologetic either. And so on Monday, a call was made and an explanation was requested. If you want to know what’s the joke, read the letter attached. You know why I call it slapstick? Because from the letter you’ll see how kelam-kabut – chaotic they are colliding all over the place without any focus on what’s important at the time.

University Malaya take note – there are many organizations who are complaining about your students and your university. You lack of care and concern and your tidak apa attitude is very worrying. Is this how you shape lives? Remember that you are in the business of education – if your own faculty and staff behave so badly, how on earth do you expect your students to be any different? Please be aware about the less than pleasant reputation that UM is garnering of late and for goodness sakes do something about it.

*Slapstick: A **boisterous form of comedy marked by chases, collisions, and crude practical jokes.

** Boisterous: - Loud, noisy, and lacking in restraint or discipline

This is why they are no longer the No 1 university in Malaysia. And to think that many still consider them their first choice. What a sad thought.

After read this blog, I am speechless. What a disappointed incident. I was thinking that UM is the best local university among others. But now...quality of the student drop. The worst thing is even the faculty & staff in the school were let this happen. How can we expect the student In UM behave better?

That is why we should never take it from granted! soo what if you are top ranking university in the world (sadly to say "used to..")
In order for the world to recognize your capability, you gotta make sure the quality is always GOOD! not today, and tomorrow only, but ALWAYS!

"Sigh...All the best, My dear UM!"

i guess is not only the students no HOPE, this goes everyone and The STAFF.... They are really NO HOPE with their "tidak apa" attitude.

They make the quality of the university drop. They make Malaysia shameful to the world.

I would advice, they should not tell people they are from University Malaya (UM).

Shame on them!
