Tough Decisions vs the Right Decisions?

  1. Over the many years, I have made many tough decisions that are not popular and definitely do not go down well with most people that have experience working with me either within or outside of the organisation.  But I sincerely only wanted to make the right decisions for the benefit of the organisation & team. If you cannot accept it, I wish you all the best.
  2. Many will NEVER understand the decisions that I make and most definitely will never do the things I do. Why? Because you are simply not in my position to deal with the things I deal with daily and I have learnt to accept and understand that as a fact. But I sincerely only wanted to make the right decisions for the benefit of the organisation & team. If you cannot accept it, I wish you all the best.
Last Saturday’s Annual Strategic Direction meeting was extremely tough for me.  I was torn inside as I was both wanting to ensure that my team had my presence to show and lead the way but at the same time, I was really wanting to be with my Dad as I was getting live updates on my phone from my family and finally spoke to Dad for a brief moment right before he was pushed in for his 2nd amputation. This time was a lot tougher as the risk were a lot higher due to various complications and the biggest fear was that he was not going to come out alive. It was really tough to still put up a smile and energy when I was really exhausted just returning from Ipoh with my Dad the day before.

I want you all to understand that I am still very focus in what we have set out to achieve and that sacrifices will still need to be made and I am constantly going to be making Tough Decisions but the Right Decisions for what I sincerely believe is what we need. Just know that I am still ALL IN & ALL OUT to ensure that we will all be moving forward toward our set targets. Talk is Cheap, Action is Good. Result builds Trust. I really hope you can all truly understand this in order for your results to speak the loudest for the organisation & commitment to the team.

I can literally understand what you are going through as I experienced the same situation early of this year. I can still feel my rapid heartbeat when the nurse brought my mum inside the operation theatre. I was standing alone clueless as my dad and brothers were in outstation during that period. Emotionally, physically and mentally I was down. That three hours of waiting made me realized how much she meant to me, my dad and brothers.

Life is filled with ups and downs, but the question is, am I going to make it balance or not. Yes, I decided to make it balance. No matter how hard the situation is, I will try to smile, remain calm and be focused. That’s the reason I will be always thankful to the God as it is making me stronger day by day.

You are a very strong individual Mr. Ernie, you will definitely see a rainbow very soon that will hide away the challenges and difficulties you are facing now.

Neither words nor long comment will be able to describe the feelings when someone dearest to you is in bad shape. Trust me, I've been there twice. i bet no other things that your dad wants to see than your smile and presence beside him. Faith will remain a mystery, we can only pray for the best. At this moment, It is best for you to cherish every valuable second with him. Again faith will always remain as a mystery.

To me, a tough decision is one where there is no path that is clearly the best. There may be many reasons why the path may be unclear, including:

- Lack of information
- Different opinion
- Not being able to forecast the future
- To many option/alternatives

To make a right decision, we have to be clear on what we want to do and moving in that direction. But regardless of how much we discuss and test different decisions, uncertainty is a fact of life.

Thank you Mr. Ernie for the sharing. we must always remind ourselves to make decisions with our head, do the task with our heart and to help others with our hands.

My prayers are with your dad, your family and you, Mr. Ernie. I am hoping everyone of you would come out of this stronger than before. Very proud with the way you handle decision making in life, even when its really hard. It is key to know our priorities well but like you say sometimes it can be quite a task to even decide what to prioritize. I am sure the decisions you make usually benefits the organization on a longer run, even if its effect cannot be felt immediately. I believe we cannot be spending our time in trying to convince everyone for each of our decisions. In that case, it is only best to agree to disagree just like you Mr. Ernie. I would reiterate that the last 7 months of my working life here has been somewhat of an enlightening period, much thanks to you. I am looking forward to many more months of progress under your guidance and cannot wait to see and be part of the plans you have for this organization.

I was only able to get over my hard situations when I decided I was going to! As I’ve discovered, that’s how everything starts. I decided to get out of bed this morning. I decided to get ready for work. Everything I did today was because I made a decision. Although we can’t set ourselves free, getting up and making a decision is a step in the right direction. Every decision brings with it some good, some bad, some lessons, and some luck. The only thing that’s for sure is that indecision steals many years from many people who wind up wishing they’d just had the courage to leap. A major life decision is never a choice but rather a realisation that the decision has already been made.
Thank you for the awesome sharing Mr. Ernie.

There is a time that I disagreed with your decision, however,
You ALWAYS explain to me the reason behind your decision which makes me understand and agreed with it at the end.
That is the reason why I am still here with the organisation and believe in what you believe.
I will continuously support you to make it happens.

Dear Mr. Ernie, making a decision is hard and not everyone will understand your goals or aims until they witness it. Some of us just have to take that leap of faith and make it. You are a true leader who motivates us to do better and put us on the right path whenever we digress. I want to thank you for the opportunity given to work in your esteemed organisation. As you always say it is not easy to work with you, but I saw it as a learning process. It was hard but beneficial as you always groomed us to be better and to move forward to see things like you did. Thank you once again for everything. My prayers are with you and your family. Thank you Mr. Ernie. ❤️ -Nicoline Natasha-

You helped shape our career and professional life and showed us how to transform our mistakes into skills. Thank you very much for your support and inspiration.

It’s not easy to make a tough decision. If a person has made one instead of the right decision, it means the person has an eye towards the bottom line. He/She are able to see the light at the end of the journey which many of us don’t.

I totally agree Mr. Ernie; we must have the guts to make such decision to see a long term success at the end of the day. Sometimes this may even hurt some souls in life in process.
Don’t give up!! Be strong, Be Positive, Take the challenge to the next level...and most important Stay FOCUS...You will reach the success.

Thanks

Yes, the RIGHT decisions have to be made even though it is TOUGH as only the RIGHT decision can make us move forward. Step out of the comfort zone and make the RIGHT but TOUGH decision instead of making an EASY but WRONG decision, and our RESULTS will tell us whether the decision is RIGHT or WRONG.

Thanks for the sharing and hope Uncle Chen will get well soon.

The right decision always the hardest to make. However, in every move or action we make, we will never know the outcome until you do it. In my opinion, we need to make decisions which one is the first priority. In any other situation, we need to prioritize our family first and put our trust to our colleagues and team to handle the task.

Thank you Mr.Ernie for your sharing.

In an organisation, we always make decision based on organisation first, team second, individual last.

Understand it is a tough moment for Mr. Ernie to take care of family at the same time to manage the organisation. As an intrapreneur, we must continuously communicate with our team members ensure they understand why we do what we do and how can we move towards the organisation goals.
How fast we achieve the target, depends on our speed and what we do!

Life is about making decisions.
Sometimes, easy and sometimes tough.
Sometimes, we make wrong decisions and sometimes we do it right.

I made a lot of wrong decisions in my life and I have learned a lot from those decisions that I made.

Wish Mr. Ernie & Uncle Chen stay strong & healthy. Things will be fine.
