A culture is
a way of life of a group of people--the behaviours, beliefs, values, and
symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are
passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
If
you have noticed by now that we have a very strong culture in PORTMAN and the
ATCEN Education Group. As we grew over the years, we made some mistakes by
hiring the wrong people. We had to pay for it with lots of time and resources
wasted. Some with selfish intentions and some that were good on paper but
totally incompetent. And of course those that just did not work with the team
or just did not care enough to work at all.
Since
last year when I presented the Business Transformation Plan for
2016, I have taken drastic and very focus actions to remove, replace
and retrain people that can and will perform and produce results. 6 months has
passed and the right foundation – The Culture needed is in
place. It’s not just in place for the staff but also with the students.
With the MOST important ingredient in place, we are NOW ready to grow the size
of the team again with new blood that are passionate to help us move
forward.
In
less than a month, you will find 10 new team members joining us in the ATCEN
Education Group. All are our own students being groomed for the last 2 years to
take on new challenges and roles to help grow us further. Remember that they
will be your colleagues and no longer your students. You will all need to buck
up and upkeep high performance, productivity and most importantly quality in
everything that you do. It will be embarrassing for you if you are being
corrected by your former students. They are told to do everything they need to
by abiding by the rules and regulations. Integrity is No. 1. They will not
tolerate anything less. I will not be tolerating anything less. We ONLY want
highly competent team members with high character. Those that desire to work
with a team that wants to grow the Group for the betterment of everyone and
most importantly our students.

We as lecturers need to ensure that our competency level are at its peak to be a role model to the new staff.

I do agree on this.. A strong culture definitely will helps companies to attract and retain employees. By using company’s culture as an additional screen in the hiring process, it can increase the chances of the new hires to quickly find their footing and become fully integrated.
The world is changing all the time. In order to survive, we need keep pushing ourself to move faster and learn as much as we can. if not, you either to be remove or replace but the company can always retrain new blood to adapt in the right culture.
I'm honoured that Mr President have chosen me to be a part of the team. Let's grow together and educate the coming generation. And I definitely believe we can make a difference :-)
I agree. The world is getting more competitive. One must be more competent and productive in order to sustain in the workplace. The strong culture in PORTMAN serves as the screening tools to retain those staff with the same strong spirit and culture.

Culture is difficult to define, but you generally know when you have found an employee who appears to fit your culture.It is powerful element that shapes your work enjoyment, relationships, and work processes. Not everyone can adapt with the certain organization culture for if they do, they will stay longer.
