Cutting Away The Fat

In an organization, doing well does not necessarily mean that it is hale and hearty. In order to make sure that your company stays healthy in every sense of the word, you must look into cutting out the fat that is clogging up its arteries. If your company isn’t doing well, then you’re simply asking for it by not cutting away the fat which will lead to a massive cardiac arrest and the eventual death of your company. What I mean by fat is everything that holds you or your company back from moving forward to bigger, better things. It can be the people or the wastage of resources. If you do not recognize the rubbish that needs to be thrown out, it can and will result in serious health issues for the entire team as well. Take a moment to evaluate the fat that is in your company and get rid of it. Make your company trim and muscular, lean and strong – like a well trained athlete – focused and well conditioned in every way. If you have fat and choose not to do anything about it – then go ahead and drown it in. It’s literally your funeral.

After we have done the performance review. some individuals are not deserving the position at all. they have been working in the company for 10+ years. nothing much we can do.

Ernie, do you have any solutions with what Bryan and Anonymous said? Thanks.

Thank you for the comments and questions.

1. We are living in a global market where organizations and individuals will need to be competitive to survive.
2. Unions are over rated. They were formed and run by people. People can be changed just like anything else. You can VSS, MSS or retrenchment. Moving forward, all organizations will be hiring people on contracts. It will all be performance based.
3. No one can question your actions once proper HR/ Disciplinary steps that is according to labor laws has been abided by.
4. Organizations can always choose to terminate employees upon the performance appraisals set against KPIs.
5. Organizations that want to remain competitive can no longer leave non-performers in their organization. They need to be removed either the hard way or the easy way. Either way, non-performers must be removed.

if Malaysia has more talents then i would think firing people is not an issue. the fact is NOT. hiring is so challenging.

True, Ernie!

Now what happen if you realise that you are the fat clogging up your company's arteries?

These are my suggestions:

1. Repent and do something about it!

2. Make a decision to change your working attitude and always work with initialitives.

3. Always go the extra mile and work with extremely high energy.

4. Re-evaluate your performance and make necessary adjustments again.

I personally find these helpful and constantly reminding (self-talk) myself daily.
